The

Double Decker Stringband

Remembering Susie

Susie Robbins
1952-2009

For those who have wondered in silence where the name "Double Decker" came from, you would have to have seen us back in 1977 with original member Susie Robbins. Being "5 foot nothing" she could stand under Bill's fiddle as he played. As the deadline for the press release of our first gig approached we were still at a loss as to what to call ourselves. She decided we should be known by what we looked like, not by what we played or how we played it.

She was only with us for two years but her quiet grace, sly sense of humor, and lyrical, steady play encouraged us to keep the band and its name. Good bye....Sweet Susie. For you we will drink one down and sing you up.
